GENERAL GUIDELINES: If you are bringing in a single piece, disconnect the cables and wires from the back of the unit. Sets transported with wires and cables attached and with plugs sticking out often suffer damaged jack panels. The same applies if you are bringing in multiple pieces. Many people stack three or four components in the back seat of their car fully "wired up". This arrangement is top-heavy and hazardous to the equipment. Disconnect the units from each other, and set them side by side.
CD CHANGERS: If possible, remove all discs. In units with drawers, do not lean forward while carrying the unit unless your hands are on the drawer.
CONSOLES: These were manufactured in the fifties and sixties. At this time, the only portion of a console we will work on is the record changer.
MULTI-PIECE SYSTEMS: Multi-piece systems consist of one "master" unit which has a line cord, and one or more "slave" units which connect to the "master" using flat ribbon cables. Unfortunately, we require ALL the pieces to service any one of them. Don't forget to bring the ribbon cables.
RAIN: We do not accept wet equipment. If it's raining, please cover your unit with a towel or put inside a plastic bag.
REMOTES AND OTHER ACCESSORIES: Bring these along. Some equipment can't be operated without the appropriate remote. If we don't want an accessory, we'll return it to you.
SPEAKERS: Please call us for instructions on how to remove a speaker (e.g. a woofer) from a wooden cabinet non-destructively, and how to transport in your vehicle without damaging the voice coil.
TURNTABLES AND RECORD CHANGERS: Please lock down the arm. If the latch is broken or missing, use tape or a twist tie to hold the arm on the rest. Put a rubber band around any cables or wires. Do not put them on top of the platter or around the arm. Keep the machine out of direct sunshine, as sunshine will destroy your rubber mat.
